MICROSOFT SENIOR MACHINE LEARNING ENGINEER, AZURE ML AND FABRIC

saas nine is working with our client to find a Senior Machine Learning Engineer for work on the Microsoft data and AI stack. This is a hands-on senior position with real ownership of how models are built and, just as importantly, how they keep running once they are in front of the business.

What you will do

Take problems from a rough business question through to a model that earns its place in production. Design and validate the models, then build the pipelines, monitoring and retraining that stop them quietly going stale. Work with the data engineering side on how features are produced and stored, and with the people who will use the output on what the numbers actually mean. You will set the approach rather than follow someone else's, and you will be the person who says when a simpler method is the right answer.

The stack

Azure Machine Learning, Databricks and Fabric data science, with Python and the usual modelling libraries. Around that sit Azure Data Factory, Data Lake and Synapse or Fabric for the data underneath, MLflow or an equivalent for experiment tracking and the model registry, Azure DevOps for delivery, and Power BI where results are surfaced. Exposure to Azure OpenAI, retrieval augmented generation or agent work is welcome but not the core of this role.

What you will bring

Several years building machine learning in a commercial setting, with models you can point to that went live and stayed live. Real depth on the Microsoft platform rather than a passing familiarity. The engineering discipline to treat a model as software: version control, testing, monitoring and a plan for when the data shifts. Classical machine learning experience matters here, so forecasting, propensity, classification and optimisation, alongside whatever generative work you have done. And the communication to explain a result to a business audience without either talking down to them or hiding behind the maths.
