We’re working with a nimble, high-performing technology startup delivering secure, scalable digital platforms for government.

They are extending a core platform into a consumer-facing web application used by thousands of Victorian households and businesses — and are now seeking a Technical Lead / Principal Engineer to own the technical direction of the product.

This is not just a lead developer role.

This is architectural ownership, engineering leadership, and delivery accountability combined.

🚀 What You’ll Be Responsible For

Architecture & Technical Leadership

• Own the end-to-end solution architecture (backend, integrations, infrastructure)

• Drive security-by-design, scalability, and maintainability

• Engage directly with client technical and business stakeholders

• Shape architectural direction across microservices and cloud-native patterns

Technical Governance & Documentation

• Author Technical Specifications and Solution Designs

• Maintain Design Decision Records

• Ensure traceable, structured technical documentation

Team Leadership

• Mentor developers and automation test engineers

• Lead code reviews and engineering standards uplift

• Raise technical maturity across the team

Delivery & Risk Management

• Lead technical refinement, elaboration and estimation

• Identify technical risks and dependencies early

• Work closely with project and product stakeholders

Security & Compliance

• Ensure adherence to government security standards

• Align to SOC2 / ISO27001 practices

• Guide observability, monitoring and operational readiness

🛠 Required Experience

• Proven experience as a Technical Lead / Principal Engineer

• Strong Angular + Python expertise

• Experience with microservices and API design

• AWS (Lambda, API Gateway), cloud-native architecture

• CI/CD, DevSecOps, Infrastructure-as-Code

• Strong technical documentation capability

• Experience mentoring engineers

• Excellent stakeholder communication skills
